Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coder to perform thorough medical record review, apply ICD-10-CM and CPT coding, and help decrease accounts receivable days.

You will abstract data elements, enter coded information into the designated system, and stay current with ICD-10-CM/CPT updates through ongoing training and resources. Strong data entry skills and teamwork with clinicians and billing staff are essential.

Qualifications

• High School/GED completed.
• Completed coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC or CPC-A Apprentice credentials.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine correct ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements and enters coded information into the designated system.
• Manages unbilled coding reports and supports cash flow.
• Keeps updated on ICD-10 CM/CPT changes via training and resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
