Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Abstractor/Coder to review clinical information, determine ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and abstract data elements for statistical reporting. The role supports hospital and health-system coding accuracy and cash flow by ensuring timely and compliant coding practices.

The position requires 1 year of hospital/physician coding experience, familiarity with HIPAA, and coding certifications such as RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required; coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology completed.
• 1 year Hospital/Physician Coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries/observations/E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology experience.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Comfort with computer applications.
• Ability to work with health care team.
• Certifications listed in Minimum/Preferred options (RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A).
• CPC and related credentials highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Reviews CAD/medical info to assign ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses/procedures (65%).
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests; enters data into systems (15%).
• Manages unbilled coding report cash flow responsibilities (10%).
• Keeps current with ICD-10 CM/CPT updates via training and resources (5%).
• Performs other duties as assigned (5%).
