Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coder to review medical records and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes. The role involves data abstraction for hospital statistics and contributing to cash flow via accurate billing.

Required are coding coursework completion, 1 year of coding experience, medical terminology, and strong data entry. Certifications such as RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School/GED is required.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• Understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with members of the health care team
• Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to aid cash flow.
• Keeps updated on ICD-10-CM/CPT changes and applies them.
• Performs other duties as required.
