Job summary

S&ME is hiring an Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician in North Carolina to test soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates for quality and safety on active projects. You will receive on-the-job training and certification support through ACI and ICC, working outdoors across different sites with crews.

The role emphasizes accurate testing, documentation, and inspections per IBC, with opportunities for growth as you gain hands-on experience and professional credentials.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Eagerness to gain experience in construction testing/inspections.
• Valid US driver’s license or International Driving Permit (IDP) with clean driving record.
• ACI certification is a plus (Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician).
• Strong communication in English (speaking, reading, writing).
• Basic math concepts related to weight, volume, pressure and units.

Responsibilities

• Start with concrete testing and sampling, then progress to soils, asphalt, and masonry.
• Receive on-the-job training and certification support through ACI and ICC.
• Work outdoors year-round across diverse sites with different crews.
• Test and document construction material tests with precision; maintain lab and field equipment.
• Perform inspections of construction materials per IBC and document observations and results.
