Job summary

Southeast Freight Lines in Baton Rouge, LA seeks a full-time Outbound Freight Handler. You will load/unload freight, prepare trailers, and assist in recouping damaged freight, using forklifts and other equipment with safe lifting techniques.

You will weigh and dimension shipments, plan cube utilization, check freight bills and manifests, verify hazardous material paperwork, and securely block and brace loads for transport.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Able to pass background check and alcohol/drug test.
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Prior forklift operator, dock/warehouse, or material handler experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight from equipment and prepare trailers.
• Inspect and clean trailers, using safe lifting techniques.
• Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification.
• Plan cube usage and weight distribution when loading.
• Count, inspect, and document shortages or damage.
• Verify freight bills, manifests and special instructions.
• Check for hazardous material paperwork and placarding.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
