Job Summary:
Under administrative supervision by the Department Administrator and direct clinical supervision by department physicians and advanced practice providers, assists with routine and advanced orthopedic procedures. Provides patient instructions on orthopedic devices, manages supplies and equipment, and may supervise Orthopedic Technician I or Junior Ortho Tech.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente policies, principles, and relevant laws. Assists physicians with orthopedic procedures.
- Instructs Orthopedic Technicians and trainees in cast application, traction setups, and OR procedures. Performs duties of Orthopedic Technician I.
- Performs functions in medical or hospital settings, including applying/removing casts, preparing patients, setting up instruments, providing patient instructions, assisting with sutures, aiding patient mobility, recording patient data, and other technical or administrative tasks.
- In the Operating Room, assists as a surgical assistant with delegated tasks, such as preparing the patient, suturing, tissue retraction, managing instruments, and wound care, under physician supervision.
Basic Qualifications:
- Two years' recent experience as an Orthopedic Technician.
- Knowledge of anatomy, fracture types, orthopedic equipment, cast and splint application.
- Ability to apply orthopedic appliances and perform sterile techniques.
- Ability to assist in the Operating Room under supervision.
- Customer service skills.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; or graduation from an accredited Orthopedic Technician program, military training, or two years of full-time experience.
License, Certification, Registration:
- Orthopedic Technologist Certificate from the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Notes:
- This is an on-call position with variable days and hours.
- Weekend call rotation.
- Travel to Carson, Torrance, Harbor City for surgical cases.
- Float between Orthopedic and Podiatry clinics.
