Department: Post-Doctoral Graduate, Advanced Educational Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics

Purpose of Position
The position supports orthodontic residents and clinical faculty with basic orthodontic dental assisting, equipment sterilization, and patient care coordination, including registration and billing for the Center’s orthodontic patients.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Provide service-excellence skills daily to ensure smooth operations with patients, public, residents, faculty, managers, and co-workers, contributing to overall program success.
- Mix dental compounds/cements, acid etch materials, prepare arch wires, impression materials/trays, and other orthodontic treatment items for residents and faculty.
- Relay dental instruments and materials to the dentist, assisting while maintaining a debris-free operating field.
- Prepare orthodontic brackets for bonding, assist in patient bonding or debonding, and ensure proper documentation for insurance purposes.
- Pour and finish cast study models or prepare e-model copies.
- Expose and develop/process dental radiographs (intra-oral, panorex, cephalometric).
- Assist in placing/removing orthodontic appliances and take full records, including radiographs, 3-D scans, photographs, and prints.
- Prepare patient treatment setups, instruments, supplies, and bonding setups for daily schedules or special cases.
- Prepare dental instruments/handpieces for sterilization and maintain sterilization records.
- Conduct microbial testing of sterilization equipment, maintaining logs and tracking systems.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and uphold ethical policies for patient outcomes.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of clinic systems and equipment, including troubleshooting and repairs.
- Maintain instruments and equipment, ensuring timely maintenance and confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Assist with research project progress and utilize spreadsheets.
- Integrate patient records into orthodontic software from various sources.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and inventory tracking using tools like Google Docs and Microsoft Office.
- Cover front desk registration/reception as needed.
- Coordinate payment efforts with billing personnel to ensure accurate patient accounts and fiscal health of the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Pennsylvania Dental Radiograph Certification.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to meet attendance and scheduling requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a structured dental assisting program in four-handed dentistry or three years of equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in dental specialties, especially orthodontics.
- Experience in institutional settings.
- Motivation, organizational skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
