Job Overview

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, this role performs pharmacy functions in compliance with policies to provide optimal pharmaceutical care. Responsibilities include preparing and distributing pharmaceuticals, inventory control, compliance audits, financial transactions, customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records. Also, assists with ordering, receiving, and inspecting medications and supplies.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

3. Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Registration.

4. One (1) year of pharmacy-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Associate's degree.

2. Two (2) years of pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.

3. Sterile compounding experience; interested in morning or mid-shift hours (10 am - 6:30 pm).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in medication preparation activities, including preparing oral liquids, extemporaneous dosage forms, and sterile compounds following recipes and instructions.
  2. Operate automated technology to assist in sterile product preparation and documentation.
  3. Accurately pick medications for automated dispensing cabinet replenishment.
  4. Manage inventory, including securing, storing, and maintaining records.
  5. Fill floor stock orders accurately as determined by pharmacists.
  6. Maintain storeroom areas, ensuring supplies are ordered and outdated medications are removed.
  7. Restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets promptly and accurately.
  8. Manage emergency medication inventory, including ordering, restocking, organizing, and documenting usage.
  9. Maintain medication rooms, ensuring proper stock and removal of expired medications.
  10. Empty return bins in automated dispensing cabinets weekly.
  11. Use the unit-dose machine for packaging bulk medications and compounding non-sterile medications.
  12. Perform cycle counts and maintain records.
  13. Account for medication management in assigned patient care areas.
  14. Assist in keeping the pharmacy clean and organized, including equipment care and cleaning after compounding or manufacturing.
  15. Conduct temperature inspections of medication refrigerators.
  16. Handle financial transactions, including billing and insurance troubleshooting.
  17. Inspect medication storage areas monthly, maintaining inspection records.
  18. Greet and assist customers, participate in point-of-sale transactions, and provide customer service over the phone.
  19. Complete assigned work accurately and timely, including quality control paperwork.
  20. Communicate effectively with healthcare staff and maintain positive relationships.
  21. Maintain team collaboration and contribute to a positive work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Walk and stand most of the day; lift up to 30 lbs.
  2. Reach and grasp at various levels.
  3. Push equipment weighing 40-60 lbs.
  4. Use manual dexterity for medication preparation and computer work.
  5. See medications, screens, and reports clearly.
  6. Read reports regularly.
  7. Work in areas with dust, dirt, temperature changes; exposure to broken glass and chemicals.
