Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing)

Summary: The Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) is assigned to the Sterile Processing Service at the Pittsburgh VAMC, Pittsburgh, PA. The incumbent is responsible for receiving contaminated critical and semi-critical reusable medical devices (RMD) and for the decontamination and sterilization of these devices. Duties require basic knowledge of sterile techniques within the SPS department.

Responsibilities:

1. Perform decontamination, sterilization, and inspection of RMDs.
2. Prepare operating room case carts.
3. Assist in quality assurance, inventory management, and Censitrac documentation.
4. Operate sterilization equipment and ensure proper packaging and sterilization methods.
5. Maintain records of sterilization processes and equipment checks.

Qualifications:

• Experience or education in sterile processing or related healthcare field.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization principles, and safety precautions.
• Ability to interpret instructions and procedures.

Work Schedule:

Rotating shifts including on-call, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Requirements:

• U.S. Citizen
• Six months of relevant experience or equivalent education
• Ability to pass background and physical examinations
