DEPARTMENT: Post-Doctoral Graduate, Advanced Educational Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics

SUPERVISED BY:

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Hourly

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The position supports orthodontic residents and clinical faculty with basic orthodontic dental assisting, equipment sterilization, and coordination of care with residents and front desk needs (registration/billing) for orthodontic patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  1. Provide service-excellence skills daily to ensure smooth operations with patients, public, residents, faculty, managers, and co-workers, ensuring overall program success.
  2. Mix dental compounds/cements, acid etch materials, and prepare orthodontic treatment items for residents and faculty.
  3. Relay dental instruments and materials to the dentist, assisting while maintaining a debris-free operating field.
  4. Assist in bonding procedures, prepare records or diagnostic aids for insurance purposes, and ensure proper documentation.
  5. Pour and finish cast models or prepare e-model copies.
  6. Expose and develop/process dental radiographs (intra-oral, panorex, cephalometric).
  7. Assist in placing/removing orthodontic appliances and take full records, including 3-D scans and photographs.
  8. Prepare patient treatment setups, instruments, supplies, and bonding setups for daily schedules or special cases.
  9. Prepare instruments/handpieces for sterilization, maintain order, and document sterilization records.
  10. Perform microbial testing of sterilization equipment, maintain testing logs.
  11. Participate in performance improvement activities and uphold ethical policies.
  12. Oversee maintenance and repair of clinic equipment, troubleshoot, and maintain systems.
  13. Maintain instruments and equipment, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure confidentiality.
  14. Assist with research project progress and completion using spreadsheets.
  15. Manage patient records in orthodontic software from various sources.
  16. Prepare reports, presentations, and inventories using Google Docs, Microsoft Office.
  17. Cover front desk registration/reception as needed.
  18. Coordinate payment efforts with billing personnel to ensure accurate patient accounts.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pennsylvania Dental Radiograph Certification.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork ability.
  • Ability to meet attendance and scheduling requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Structured dental assisting program completion or three years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience in dental specialties, particularly orthodontics.
  • Institutional experience preferred.
  • Motivation, organizational skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
