Job summary

Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support RN-led care in a fast-paced hospital setting. The role includes specimen handling, EKGs, catheter management, and daily patient assistance across multiple units.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, an accredited CNA program (or nursing student rotation) and BLS certification, with a commitment to patient safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an accredited CNA program and listed on the Illinois CNA Registry OR nursing student who has completed one clinical rotation.
• BLS through American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical/patient care tasks under the direction of the RN or physician.
• Collects, labels and transports specimens as assigned.
• Obtains 12 lead EKGs.
• Discontinues Saline Locks and Indwelling Urinary Catheters.
• Discontinues Telemetry Monitoring packs.
• Performs Bladder Scan and Point of Care Testing as appropriate.
• Assists patients with personal hygiene and nutrition.
• Performs hourly patient rounding with the RN.
• Documents patient care data as directed by the RN and care plan.
• Assists with ambulation and positioning per care plan.
• Responds to call lights promptly and maintains a safe care environment.
• Participates in learning needs and training; supports performance improvement.
