Job summary

Gift of Hope NA in Chicago, IL is seeking a Surgical Tech for Surgical Recovery coordination. The role involves assisting the surgical recovery of deceased donor organs for transplantation, recovering organs for research and coordinating distribution for transplantation or research.

Responsibilities include documenting perfusion-related data, preparing and labeling organs, and working with hospital teams to facilitate donation processes.

Qualifications

• Requires education and experience with a surgical focus and minimum of one year in an operating room environment and aseptic/sterile technique
• Completion of a CST, Surgical Technologist or First Assist program preferred or organ preservation/transplant experience
• Other candidates may be considered on an individual basis at management's discretion

Responsibilities

• Assist the recovering surgeon in the surgical recovery of deceased donor organs for transplantation
• Recover organs for research
• Communicate effectively with internal and external partners to facilitate the donation process
• Document clinical information and input perfusion data into DonorNet as required
• Package and label organs for transplantation or research
• Perform surgical dissection and preparation of deceased donor kidneys for machine perfusion
• Monitor kidneys during hypothermic machine perfusion
• Obtain, process, stain, and scan kidney biopsies for telepathology
• Participate in departmental quality assurance initiatives and training
• Mentor new staff as assigned
• Other duties as assigned
