Job summary

UPMC Somerset is seeking a dedicated Surgical Services Support Technician to join our Operating Room team. This full-time role supports patient care and helps maintain smooth case flow under RN supervision.

The position requires a high school diploma with healthcare exposure and basic computer skills. The role involves four 10-hour shifts with at least one Saturday per quarter for deep cleaning and OR readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience in a customer service or healthcare role.
• Enrollment in any healthcare training program that requires clinical rotations with at least 1 clinical rotation completed.
• Microcomputer experience preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies.
• Support change within the department/organization as directed.
• Assist with patient care skills under RN guidance in a safe manner.
• Receive and act on feedback from preceptors and identify learning needs.
• Support department efficiency and safety through proper equipment and room maintenance.
• Assist with patient positioning under supervision.
• Transport specimens to the lab and help with instrument trays setup.
• Ensure sterile fields are established and maintained; assist with set-up and ordering of instrument trays.
• Coordinate with anesthesia and OR staff to prioritize daily assignments and remain accessible in the OR.
