Job summary

UPMC Somerset in Somerset, PA seeks a Surgical Technologist at Tech, Intermediate, or Senior level to support the operating room team. You will prepare sterile fields, pass instruments, ensure equipment readiness, handle specimens, and contribute to patient safety and case flow.

This casual, as-needed role requires commitment of at least 16 hours per six-week schedule and participation in weekend/holiday call coverage with a minimum of 120 call hours per year.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Surgical Technologist across levels (Tech to Senior).
• Ability to support sterile technique and operating room safety.
• Willingness to participate in weekend/holiday call coverage.

Responsibilities

• Teach and mentor new staff and students.
• Assist in passing instruments and maintaining sterile environment during operations.
• Help prepare the OR by arranging instruments, drapes, and supplies.
• Assist with patient preparation and positioning for surgery.
• Ensure proper labeling of medications and specimen handling when applicable.
• Support cost containment in usage of materials and equipment.
