Job summary

UPMC in Harrisburg is seeking a Surgical Services Support Technician to assist the care team and help maintain efficient case flow within the department. Under supervision of an RN or clinician, you will support staff and participate in patient care activities.

Responsibilities include preparing the OR, ensuring equipment readiness, communicating with anesthesia and OR staff, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. Strong communication and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrollment in a healthcare training program with clinical rotations is preferred.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with microcomputer applications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish effective communication strategies.
• Support department or organization changes as needed.
• Perform patient care tasks under RN guidance, following policy and procedure.
• Receive feedback and guidance constructively.
• Identify learning needs with the preceptor.
• Maintain patient safety and a clean, organized environment.
• Assist with patient positioning under RN supervision.
• Transport specimens to the lab.
• Set up sterile fields and assist with instruments.
• Communicate with anesthesia and OR staff to prioritize daily OR assignments.
• Move patients on and off the bed in the OR suite.
• Adhere to hospital safety policies and protect patient information.
• Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department.
