Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optometric Technician to support Optometrists and deliver high‑quality patient care. You will perform pre‑testing, assist with diagnostic testing, and help manage the doctor’s schedule to ensure smooth patient flow.

You will document findings in EHR, handle basic clerical tasks, and contribute to a collaborative, patient‑centered practice. This role requires strong attention to detail and good communication.

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Experience maintaining patients’ records / files per HIPAA regulations.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Interviews patient to determine medical issues and visit reasons for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referral appointments and complete paperwork as needed.
• Record and maintain patient records in compliance with policies (HIPAA).
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatment plans.
• Perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Document medical findings in EHR and assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation.
• Ensure maximum schedule utilization via confirmations and recall outreach.
• Manage contact lens insertion/removal and inventory, take orders.
• End-of-day wrap-up and showroom organization; scribe duties may be required.
• Perform other duties as requested by the practice.
