Job summary

AEG Vision in Lancaster, Ohio is seeking an Optometric Technician to work with Optometrists, supporting patient care and education to ensure a high-quality experience from start to finish.

The Optometric Technician conducts pre‑testing procedures, assists with specialty diagnostic testing, performs post‑exam tasks, and manages the doctor’s appointment schedule to ensure every patient receives an efficient, high‑quality experience from start to finish.

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Experience maintaining patients’ records / files per HIPAA regulations.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto refractor, visual acuity.
• Performs verbal interview with patient prior to visit with Optometrist to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit.
• May be required to schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists and other follow-ups.
• Records and maintain patient records / files in compliance with HIPAA.
• Responds to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
• May be required to perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Documents medical findings and communication between Optometrist and patient in EHR; assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation.
• Ensures maximum schedule utilization through pre-appointment confirmation and recall follow-ups.
• Performs contact lens insertion and removal classes and manages contact lens orders.
• Performs end-of-day wrap-up and maintains practice cleanliness.
• May act as a scribe for the Optometrist or perform refractions.
