Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Saturday availability 8:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assist optometrists in providing excellent care.
  • Greet and prepare patients for their visit.
  • Gather medical history, take measurements, and conduct preliminary tests.
  • Operate OCT, retinal camera, and visual field-testing equipment.
  • Ensure accurate and thorough documentation.
  • Communicate with patients through electronic systems.
  • Provide guidance on eyewear care and contact lens handling.
  • Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of ocular equipment.

Job description

Hawthorne Vision Center is seeking a dependable and conscientious professional to join their team as an Optometric Technician in Portland, OR. This individual will also cross train as a Patient Coordinator. As an Optometric Technician, you will be responsible for preparing patients for their eye exams and performing diagnostic tests. As a patient coordinator you will help keep patient care flowing efficiently. In both roles you’ll play a key role in our commitment to treating every patient like family and maintaining a high standard of excellence in all aspects of care.

No experience? No problem! If you are motivated, reliable, and eager to learn, we are willing to provide the training needed to be successful in this role!

WHAT WE OFFER:
  • Starting wage of $18 per hour, based on education and experience, with commission and bonus opportunities available.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Assist our optometrists in providing excellent care.

  • Ensure accurate and thorough documentation.

  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of professional ocular equipment.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience working in a medical setting is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Saturday availability from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. is required.
  • While not mandatory, knowledge of medical terminology is helpful.Committed to high-quality work, even when tasks are routine or time-sensitive
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow procedures and operate diagnostic equipment.
