Job summary

VSP Vision seeks an ophthalmic assistant to support eye examinations and patient care within a clinical setting in Corvallis, OR. You will assist the Optometrist with pre-testing, patient history intake, and guiding patients through the eye care process.

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiries.
• Effective written communication skills to clearly document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needs.
• Ability to listen, process transactions and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Optometrist with eye examinations and patient eye care.
• Prepare patients by gathering medical history and explaining exam process.
• Take measurements and administer tests to determine visual capabilities.
• Perform contact lens insertion and educate patients on insertion/removal.
• Order contact lenses and manage trials inventory.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications.
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed.
• Prioritize patient care and patient flow, communicating with doctors and staff.
• Assist in other office duties such as phones, insurance verification, and charting.
• Cross-train in departments and participate in special projects.
