Job summary

VSP Vision in Corvallis, OR seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to support the Optometrist with eye examinations and patient care. You will handle pre-testing, intake patient history, and guide patients through the clinical experience.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, operating instruments, administering tests, educating on contact lenses, and ensuring smooth patient flow under physician direction. Previous experience and MS Office familiarity preferred; strong communication skills

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office suite.
• Effective verbal communication and ability to document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for exam: gather history, explain process, and document records.
• Operate clinical instruments, take measurements, and conduct prep tests.
• Perform contact lens insertion and train patients on handling.
• Order contact lenses and manage trials inventory.
• Administer ophthalmic and dilation medications.
• Scribe for the doctor and translate when needed.
• Prioritize patient care and flow; communicate with doctors and staff.
• Assist with therapy exercises under Optometrist guidance.
• Support other office areas: phones, insurance, check-in/out.
• Participate in special projects and cross-train across departments.
