Job summary

Visionworks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to enhance patient experiences by preparing patients for in-person or remote exams, performing pre-exam testing, and explaining each step. You will liaise between patients and Optometrists and help start the patient journey.

Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of related experience, a healthcare or optical background is preferred, and you will work with EMR systems, pretest protocols, and remote eye exams as needed.

Qualifications

• 1 year of related experience required
• Optical or healthcare background preferred
• Medical office professionalism required
• HS diploma or GED or equivalent related job experience
• Training provided

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and submit information into EMR
• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and explain pre-testing
• Support remote eye exams with pre-testing and video conferencing
• Transition patients to retail associate after exam and convey doctor recommendations
• Preauthorize insurance per SOP and coordinate with front desk
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books; handle no-shows and cancellations
• Maintain patient flow for doctor effectiveness
• Answer clinical questions and triage ophthalmic emergencies
• Maintain complete patient records per company standards
• Instruct patients on contact lens care and handling
• Place diagnostic contact lens orders and notify patients when ready
• Know contact lens brands and pull trials as ordered
• Maintain clean clinical environment and equipment nightly
• Participate in training and obtain required clinical certifications
• Flexible schedules including travel to other locations
