Job summary

VSP Vision in New York (City of Troy) seeks a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to optimize patient experience by preparing patients for on-site and remote exams, performing pre-exam tests, and guiding patients through the process with empathy and clear explanations.

The role supports optometrists, handles insurance preauthorizations, manages appointments and records, and ensures smooth transitions to retail staff after the exam.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills
• Very detail orientated and well organized
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and associates
• Ability to read English and operate EMR software accurately
• HS diploma or GED and related job experience required

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for exams and assist onsite doctors with eye examinations
• Explain preliminary testing to patients and document results in EMR
• Assist remote patients with remote eye exams including testing and conferencing
• Manage patient flow and schedule appointments with retail staff
• Instruct patients on contact lens care and stock contact lens orders
