Job summary

VSP Vision in New York is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to help prepare patients for onsite and remote examinations and to document findings in the EMR. You will guide patients through pre-exam testing and explain each step of the process while supporting the optometrists.

Responsibilities include assisting with eye examinations, coordinating with retail staff, preauthorizing insurance, managing appointment books, and ensuring accurate patient records.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and submit medical history into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and eye examinations, document results in EMR.
• Explain preliminary testing to patients and document results in EMR.
• Assist remote patients through remote eye exam process and document results.
• Transition patient to retail associate with doctor recommendations.
• Preauthorize insurance per SOP.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books, including contacting no-shows.
• Maintain patient records according to Company standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens insertion and care.
• Place diagnostic contact lens orders and notify patients when lenses are ready.
• Ensure clean clinical environment and proper stock of supplies.
• Travel to other locations as needed.
