Job summary

Voyager Technologies in San Diego is seeking a seasoned Optical Technician to provide hands-on support for design, assembly, alignment, test, and integration of electro-optical and photonic systems in a defense/aerospace setting.

The ideal candidate brings 6 years of technician experience in optics, strong bench skills, and the discipline to operate in cleanroom environments. This role requires active U.S. security clearances and precise, documented workmanship.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electro- optics, Photonics, Electronics Technology, or related field.
• 6+ years hands-on optical/electro-optical technician experience in defense/aerospace/precision optics manufacturing.
• Experience with MIL-SPEC programs or government-contracted programs.
• Proficiency in optical alignment, interferometric testing, and precision assembly.
• Familiarity with cleanroom ISO Class 5–7 and contamination control.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and align precision optical components per drawings and procedures.
• Integrate electro-optical subassemblies into larger sensor or imaging systems.
• Perform fiber optic splicing, connector termination, and cable routing.
• Support installation and integration of laser systems and detectors.
• Conduct optical tests (wavefront error, MTF, transmittance) with interferometers and spectrophotometers.
• Document test results and flag non-conformances; support corrective actions.
