Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a System Chair of Ophthalmology at AHN, primarily based at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. This role leads clinical/translational research and sets standards of care across inpatient and outpatient services, while collaborating with leaders to implement strategy for patient care.

The System Chair mentors physicians, drives value-based metrics, oversees operations, and engages in regional and international meetings.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
• Board-certified in ophthalmology
• Completion of an ACGME-approved Ophthalmology Residency
• Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania prior to employment

Responsibilities

• Articulate a vision, drive innovation, inspire others and set high expectations for achievement
• Collaborate within a team-oriented environment and maintain the highest level of customer service
• Relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences
• Proactively identify issues and implement solutions
• Adopt value-based care quality system metrics
• Mentor and develop physician staff and team
• Prepare all necessary documentation including orders, consents, charges and medical documentation
• Direct all activities related to maintaining and advancing patient care within the department
• Oversee all programmatic and operational aspects of the Department of Ophthalmology
• Participate in regional, national, and international meetings
• Participate in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows
• Contribute to research activity within the department, including investigator-initiated trials, cooperative group and industry-sponsored clinical trials, laboratory investigation, and publication of research findings
• Develop the opportunity for resident and fellowship training programs
