Job summary

Atlantic Eye Institute is seeking an ophthalmic technician to assist ophthalmologists by gathering data on patients’ ocular health, performing clinical tests, and entering information into electronic medical records.

The role involves chart reviews, testing ordered by physicians, histories, visual acuity documentation, medication administration under direction, and assisting with in-office procedures, while maintaining exam room cleanliness and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as uncertified ophthalmic assistant preferred.
• COA certification preferred.
• Experience with Modernizing Medicine software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient chart to ensure information is complete and accurate.
• Performs testing ordered by doctor and as per exam type.
• Acts as medical scribe and enters data into EMR.
• Captures ocular and systemic history and records visual acuity.
• Administers topical or oral medications under physician direction.
• Assists with in-office procedures and ensures informed consent.
• Maintains cleanliness and order of exam rooms.
• Complies with procedures, protocols and regulations.
• Supports patient education and coordinates with the team.
