Job summary

Atlantic Eye Institute is seeking an ophthalmic technician to support ophthalmologists and optometrists. You will gather data on ocular health, perform tests, and document results in the electronic medical records system.

The role includes clinical support, patient interaction, and administrative tasks in a fast-paced setting. A high school diploma and relevant ophthalmic experience are valued, with COA appreciated and Nextech/ICP familiarity a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• COA certification preferred but not required.
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
• Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by exam type, history or complaint.
• Act as a medical scribe and enter data into electronic medical records during exams.
• Take ocular and systemic histories and record visual acuity.
• Administer ophthalmic medications under physician direction.
• Assist with simple in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.
• Assist with patient education and maintain exam rooms cleanliness.
• Report inventory needs and participate in daily huddles and team meetings.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient's ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Certification, COA preferred but not required
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
