Job summary

Retina Institute of Illinois, part of EyeSouth Partners, is seeking a dedicated ophthalmic technician to support physicians through clinical testing, chart review, and data entry in our fast-paced clinic in Gurnee, IL.

The role requires a High School Diploma, Nextech/ICP experience preferred, strong communication skills, and the ability to act as a medical scribe. Competitive benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by exam type, patient history, or complaint.
• Act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into EMR.
• Take ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications as directed by physician.
• Assist with simple in-office procedures and ensure informed consent is obtained.
• Assist with patient education and maintain cleanliness of exam rooms.
• Comply with all practice procedures, protocols and regulations.

Established over 15 years ago, the Retina Institute of Illinois has been providing outstanding retinal care to the Chicago-land area and surrounding suburbs.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Pay Range - $20.00-$22.00/hr. Commensurate with experience

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
