Job summary

Retina Institute of Illinois in Schaumburg, IL seeks an ophthalmic technician to support clinicians with chart review, testing, and documentation. The role includes acting as a medical scribe and assisting with procedures in a busy retina clinic.

The position emphasizes accurate history taking, medication administration, and student education while maintaining a clean, compliant exam environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred.
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
• Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
• Perform testing ordered by physician and scheduled exam type.
• Act as a medical scribe entering data into EMR during patient exam.
• Record ocular and systemic history and visual acuity.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications as directed.
• Assist with simple in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.
• Educate patients and maintain exam room cleanliness.
• Comply with state/federal regulations and practice protocols.

Job description

At Retina Institute of Illinois, we believe in providing compassionate and conscientious retinal care to our patients, with the goal of improving eyesight and preventing loss of vision.

Established over 15 years ago, the Retina Institute of Illinois has been providing outstanding retinal care to the Chicago-land area and surrounding suburbs.

Pay Range - $22.50-$24.50/hr. Commensurate with experience

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
