Job summary

Houston Retina Associates, affiliated with EyeSouth Partners, is seeking an ophthalmic technician to support ophthalmologists with data collection, testing, and patient care. Responsibilities include chart reviews, entering data into EMR, and assisting with procedures in a fast-paced clinic.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma and Nextech/ICP experience; strong communication and teamwork are essential for coordinated patient care across multiple locations in the Houston area.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent years related experience preferred.
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform tests as ordered and based on exam type and patient history.
  • Enter data into electronic medical records.
  • Record ocular and systemic history and visual acuity.
  • Assist with ophthalmic procedures and informed consent.
  • Educate patients and maintain exam room cleanliness.
  • Comply with practice procedures, protocols, and regulations.
  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership for ordering.
  • Participate in team huddles and meetings.
  • Identify and report potential errors to supervisor.
  • Contribute to the team effort with extra tasks.
  • Maintain professional attitude and courtesy.

Houston Retina Associates is affiliated with EyeSouth Partners' premier network of medical and surgical specialty eye care services. Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Clinical
  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administrates topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
Administrative
  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
