Job summary

EyeSouth Partners is hiring an ophthalmic technician to support ophthalmologists in Metro Detroit. The role focuses on gathering patient data, performing clinical tests, and entering information into the EMR with accuracy.

Ideal candidates have ophthalmic/optometric technician experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting. We offer competitive benefits and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred.
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Review patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by exam type, patient history or complaint.
• Entry of data into electronic medical records as a medical scribe.
• Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under physician direction.
• Assist with simple in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.
• Assist with patient education and maintain exam rooms.
• Comply with practice procedures, protocols, and state/federal regulations.
• Participate in inventory/supply reporting and daily team huddles.

Led by Drs. Steven Fite and Benjamin Monson, the practice combines cutting-edge diagnostics with a warm, patient-first approach. Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The Ophthalmic Technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
