Job summary

EyeSouth Partners is seeking an ophthalmic technician to assist physicians by gathering data, performing tests, and entering information into the electronic medical record. The role supports doctors across a busy ophthalmology practice with multiple locations.

The ideal candidate has ophthalmic/optometric technician experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Qualifications

• Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review patient chart for completeness and accuracy.
• Perform testing as ordered by doctor and based on exam.
• Act as medical scribe by entering data into electronic medical records.
• Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under physician direction.
• Assist with simple in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.
• Assist with patient education.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in exam rooms.
• Comply with practice procedures, protocols, and regulations.

Job description

With over 200 years of combined experience, Georgia Retina’s board-certified ophthalmologists offer world-class expertise and a personalized approach to patient care in 13 Metro Atlanta area locations.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
