Job summary

WMC Advanced Physician Services PC – Medical Home Clinic in Mount Pleasant, NY, seeks an ophthalmic assistant to support the ophthalmologist in patient care. You will manage patient flow, perform diagnostic testing, document information, and conduct eye exams.

Responsibilities include conducting visual acuity tests, patient education on clinic flow, scheduling coordination, lensometry, vision fields, and intraocular pressure measurements, with opportunities to work with EMR and learn OCT

Qualifications

• Experience: 1 year in ophthalmic practice, required.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• Licenses / Certifications: COT, COMT, or COA, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures detailed patient interview containing adequate case history is gained.
• Instructs patients on first visit of clinic flow, tests, procedures and medications.
• Assessment of visual acuity (VA) in pediatric and adult patients; uses LogMAR/Snellen tests.
• Answering patient phone calls and coordinating patient scheduling.
• General stocking and maintenance of clinic/workspace and equipment.
• Lensometry: perform non-automated and automated lensometry to determine spectacle strengths.
• Visual fields: perform automated and manual tests.
• Measurement of intraocular pressures using applanation tonometry and other methods.
• Measurement of corrective glasses and refractive error.
• Assessment of color vision.
• Performance of basic diagnostic tests such as corneal pachymetry.
• Evaluation of pupillary responses; extended scope may include slit lamp and retinoscopy.
• Must be willing to work with EMR and learn OCT and additional new technologies.
• Diagnostic testing of inpatients in the ophthalmology hospital lane and other duties as needed.
