Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a dedicated Ophthalmology Assistant for the Highland Oaks practice in North Carolina. The role supports ophthalmic screenings, maintains exam rooms, and ensures patient confidentiality while working under physician supervision.

The position offers a day shift (8-5), a $6,000 sign-on bonus, health coverage from day one, generous PTO, and retirement contributions. Must have a high school diploma, CPR certification, and 1 year eye-related experience.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Computer skills; experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred.
• Solid understanding of ophthalmic practice and care of ophthalmic patients.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic instrumentation and testing.
• Proficiency in preliminary ophthalmic testing (COA) per certification.
• Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently.
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Performs preliminary screenings including history, visual acuity, tonometry, lensometry, pupil exam and visual field testing.
• Maintains ophthalmic exam lanes and equipment in clinic.
• Cleans ophthalmic equipment and maintains clean exam rooms.
• Ensures exam rooms are stocked and organized.
• Interacts with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians professionally.
• Maintains CPR certification and adheres to required competencies and continuing education hours.
• Under physician direction, may perform prescription refills according to guidelines.
• Demonstrates patient-centric service and teamwork in daily duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned based on certification level.
