Job summary

Advocate Health in Winston-Salem's Highland Oaks Ophthalmology clinic seeks a full-time Ophthalmic Assistant to perform preliminary screenings, document patient histories, and measure visual acuity under physician supervision.

Maintain exam lanes, stock rooms, and interact with patients professionally while ensuring confidentiality. CPR is required; at least one year in eye care preferred. Schedule: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm; pay range $20.80–$31.20/hr; $6k sign-on bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Computer skills; EMR experience preferred.
• Solid understanding of ophthalmic practice and care.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic instrumentation and testing.
• Proficient in basic preliminary ophthalmic testing (COA).
• Able to multitask and manage time effectively.
• Maintain safety standards and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary screenings as ordered by physician and obtain histories.
• Measure visual acuity, perform tonometry, lensometry and pupil exams.
• Instill ocular medications and conduct visual field testing as directed.
• Keep ophthalmic exam lanes and equipment clean and stocked.
• Interact with patients and staff professionally and maintain confidentiality.
• Pursue ongoing education and maintain CPR certification; participate in development.
• Under physician direction, handle prescription refills per guidelines.
• Demonstrate commitment to high-quality patient care.
