EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part Time, Non-Exempt
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, generally 1:00 -6:00 p.m., approximately 25 hours per week. Occasional additional hours or evening events may be required with prior approval.
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: September 9, 2027 - July 30, 2027
COMPENSATION: $24-$28/hour, depending upon relevant experience.
LOCATION: 11 Jefferson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238 (on-site)
Job Summary
This position provides afternoon support across the School's Front Desk, After School, and library operations. The role supports day-to-day school operations, afternoon dismissal, family communication, student transitions, After School programming, and the organization and maintenance of library resources.
Responsibilities
FRONT DESK COVERAGE & FAMILY SUPPORT
- Provide Front Desk coverage during the afternoon and early evening hours
- Welcome and assist students, families, staff, visitors, and vendors entering the School
- Support afternoon dismissal and help ensure students are connected with the appropriate After School class, Aftercare group, or authorized adult
- Respond to routine family questions and direct more complex concerns to the appropriate staff member or administrator
- Support general Front Desk operations, including answering phones, receiving messages, and assisting with day-to-day school needs
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming front entrance and dismissal environment
AFTER SCHOOL COMMUNICATION & PROGRAM SUPPORT
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for families regarding After School programming
- Communicate routine updates regarding program schedules, cancellations, room changes, instructor absences, and other program logistics
- Help maintain accurate After School attendance, rosters, enrollment information, and daily program updates
- Communicate with After School instructors regarding attendance, student needs, room assignments, and schedule changes
- Support student transitions from the school day into After School programming and Aftercare
- Coordinate with the Business Office and relevant staff regarding family questions related to registration or program participation
- Escalate significant student, family, staffing, or program concerns to school leadership
COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
- Work closely with Front Desk staff, After School instructors, faculty, library support staff, and the Business & Operations Office
- Maintain clear, warm, and professional communication with families
- Help ensure information is shared consistently among the Front Desk, After School team, faculty, and school administration
- Participate in relevant meetings or check-ins related to Front Desk, After School, library, and general school operations as needed
- Provide general operational support during the afternoon as priorities arise
Requirements
- Experience working with children and families or in a school, childcare, library, or After School environment preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy school environment
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfort communicating directly with parents and caregivers
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and the ability to learn school registration, library, and communication systems
- Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with children, families, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Understanding of, or openness to learning about, Waldorf education and pedagogy
- Sound judgment and the ability to identify and appropriately escalation student, family, staffing, or safety concerns
