Position Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $72000.00 - $82000.00 Salary/year

This position is responsible for maintenance of all recreational facilities, fleet repairs, maintenance and replacements, shelters, playgrounds, signs, construction projects, special events, and support projects as assigned. This is an exempt position that requires a commitment of 40+ hours per week year-round, including occasional evening, weekend and holiday hours. This position is responsible for answering and responding to after-hours emergencies.

Essential Duties include:

  1. Plans, directs, trains, and supervises, full-time and seasonal staff in the maintenance and repair of all recreational facilities, shelters, playgrounds, and signs.
  2. Responsible for electrical, plumbing, alarm, fire suppression, lighting, HVAC units and other systems.
  3. Directs the playground safety and maintenance program including inspections, repairs and written records.
  4. Oversees the inspections, maintenance and repair of all hard surface courts, trails, parking lots, fencing, backstops, park benches, tables and sidewalks.
  5. Oversees all sign construction and repair.
  6. Directs, supervises and completes construction and renovation projects as assigned.
  7. Provides picnic, camp, concert and other recreation support, including special event support and management of mobile stage. Works with Landscape and Horticultural Supervisors for all special events.
  8. Oversees restroom shelter sanitation and opening and closing shelters daily during the season.
  9. Maintains inventory and has custody of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  10. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates the work of full-time Operations Department including the Mechanic, Park Specialist I, II, III and IV positions and for all Operations Department seasonal laborers.
  11. Provides evaluations of seasonal and full-time staff, disciplines and takes other corrective personnel actions as required following the proper guidelines established by the District.
  12. Maintains accurate payroll and maintenance records.
  13. Oversees snow removal operations on a rotational basis with the Landscape Supervisor and Horticultural Supervisor.
  14. Supervises Horticultural and Landscape staff in the absence of the Horticultural Supervisor or the Landscape Supervisor.
  15. Manages a building/facility inspection and maintenance program.
  16. Assists in planning and implementing safety trainings. Establishes and maintains property safety standards.
  17. Responsible for following appropriate safety guidelines.
  18. Assigns vandalism repairs and complete reports.
  19. Responsible for assisting with the startup, repairs, and winterization/shut down of both pools. Additionally responsible for assisting with pool pump maintenance.
  20. Hires and monitors the work of contractors when needed.
  21. Responsible for scheduling and assuring completion of work requests.
  22. Assists with budgeting and procurement of equipment and supplies.
  23. May be called on to report to work on an on-call basis or contact staff for repair emergencies.
  24. Oversees mechanic regarding vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance, repairs and the replacement plan.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Park Management or related field is preferred. Trades certification or training and work experience in trades is highly desirable for this position.

Experience: Five years parks and facility maintenance or related work experience including leadership/supervisory responsibilities. Thorough knowledge of facility and playground maintenance operations including mechanical, plumbing, electrical and lighting systems. Thorough knowledge of personnel planning and supervision including the ability to plan, organize, supervise and monitor the work of others seven days a week. Position requires good leadership ability and the ability to get along well with all levels of staff. Ability to keep records and generate reports and to work from oral and written direction; good written and verbal communication skills. Good knowledge of accident prevention precautions applicable to park maintenance operations. Must have strong computer skills with a knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets (Microsoft Office). Practical knowledge of equipment and tools used in parks and facilities maintenance. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

Certifications: Must be able to obtain and keep Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification. Must be able to obtain and keep current CPR and AED certifications. Must possess a valid Illinois Drivers' License.
