Job summary

Ports America seeks an Assistant Operations Manager DMT in Baltimore to direct, plan and supervise terminal operations and staff, ensuring safe, efficient, and productive service for assigned customers and cargo types.

The role supports development and achievement of operational and financial goals, upholding Ports America values, coordinating with M&R/Terminal departments, overseeing payroll, safety, and labor relations, and traveling as needed in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1+ year of experience in supply chain, logistics, warehouse, or related discipline.
• Experience with Computerized Operating Systems.
• Obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
• Valid US Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise the work activities of the Foreman, Labor, and other personnel; ensure performance expectations and customer needs are met.
• Determine the amount of labor needed for each day and ensure labor is ordered appropriately for your assigned area.
• Make decisions affecting overtime cost and general expenditures and ensure they are in the best interests of company and customers.
• Determine additional staffing / labor needs and contact appropriate representative in advance.
• Ensure payroll accuracy and make appropriate changes as needed.
• Ensure compliance with the company’s Safety program.
• Ensure all labor and staff comply with safety programs and procedures.
• Work closely with M&R/Terminal Departments to ensure equipment allocation meets operational demands.
• Maintain positive relations with Labor and ensure adherence to Collective Bargaining Agreements.
• Ensure that performance issues are addressed and corrective action is taken when needed.
• Participate in regular training and feedback to labor and management staff.
• Communicate areas of accountability and performance expectations to labor and management staff.
• Develop and improve operating and administrative procedures to provide required information.
• Ensure certifications and trainings are current for staff.
• Follow company policies and submit reports on time.
• Travel to support other operations as needed.
