  • Use Computer-Aided Dispatching (CAD) system.
  • Visually assess drivers to make proper judgments.

Job description

The supervisor/dispatcher monitors daily transportation activities via two-way radio, telephone, computer programs, and person-to-person to ensure the transportation of passengers is performed within the set scheduled time.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Receive calls from operators, determine the location and nature of an emergency, handling incidents/accidents, customer complaints, report writing, and/or police as deemed necessary, and
  • Must be able to maintain professional standards and attitudes when obscene language is directed at them
  • Must have the ability to evaluate information and consider numerous factors in determining the appropriate response
  • Must have the ability to interpret and/or apply the work rules when necessary
  • Must be able to monitor emergency alarms from buses and enter, update and retrieve a variety of information from computer systems
  • Must have hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate and view multiple monitors, a computer keyboard, and radios in rapid succession or even simultaneously
  • Use computer aided dispatching system
  • Visually assess drivers to make proper judgment decisions
    Other job-related duties may be assigned in keeping with the goals and objectives of CARTA
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, such as GED
  • CDL Class B with air brake and passenger endorsement
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of all CARTA routes/schedules, service area, work rules, Code of Conduct and Policies and Procedures of CARTA
  • Familiarity with Laws/regulations associated with the safe operations of transit vehicles
  • Ability to exercise judgement and creativity in making decisionsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to learn other software programs utilized by CARTA
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently, strong attention to details
