Qualifications

Title: Operations Manager
Reports to: Executive Vice President
Location: Headquarters Office in Flanders, NJ
Salary Range:$140,000 – $190,000, based on experience and qualifications. This position is exempt based on a standard 40-hour work week.

About the Role:

SCE, a utility infrastructure based multi-disciplined Engineering Consulting Firm in Morris County, NJ, is seeking an Operations Manager to join our team and oversee staff of 180+. SCE’s Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of SCE through continued implementation and improvement of the operational systems, processes and policies in support of SCE’s mission. Specifically, the Operations Manager will support enhanced management reporting, information transfer, business process and organizational planning. The Operations Manager is responsible for the effective methods and strategies to ensure and improve the performance, productivity, efficiency, risk management and profitability of SCE.

General Characteristics:

The Operations Manager administratively directs, supervises and monitors all employees of SCE. In addition, the Operations Manager will act as the primary point of contact for all employee questions or concerns aside from project specific items which shall be directed to the appropriate Project Manager/Project Coordinator or Professional in Charge. Managers and Professionals are responsible for technical oversight and critical path direction in a project-related capacity and staff mentoring in a professional capacity. The Operations Manager reports to the SCE’s Executive Vice President.

Schedule:

Candidate can expect to work approximately 100% of their week in the Flanders, NJ office (hybrid arrangements will be reviewed following 90 days of employment). Company hours are Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Primary Examples of Work, Duties, and Accountability/Authority:
  • Production: Coordinate, supervise and monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of all Project Managers and Project Coordinators with regard to production process, scheduling and project budgets. Monitor performance and implement improvements. Ensure quality of work through implementation of established methods and strategies. Provide support where necessary.
  • Administration: Monitor, manage and improve the efficiency of support services such as IT, Marketing & Proposals, Human Resources, and Finance. Facilitate coordination and communication among support functions and production.
  • Best Practices: Provides leadership and expertise in developing sustainable business practices in all functional areas within the organization. Improve processes, workflows, policies and procedures in support of SCE’s organizational and business goals. Formulate and implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Monitor adherence to policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Strategic Input: Liaison with Executive/Corporate Officers. Assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity including preparation of annual business plan. Implement and manage operational improvements to achieve goals of SCE.
  • Corporate Culture / Communication: Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with staff across all levels, departments and offices. Facilitate proactive communication between field teams, office staff, subcontractors, vendors and Clients. Prepare and deliver monthly performance metrics to Department Managers for review of departmental and companywide performance. Prepare and deliver quarterly Town Hall sessions for review of companywide business performance with all employees.
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.

Registration / Certification Status:

Registered Professional Engineer (PE). Multiple state licensure desirable (NJ, NY and PA)

Specific Business Background & Experience Requirements:
  • Experience managing a department and accountable for achieving departmental performance goals.
  • Demonstrable project management experience and the successful delivery of projects on schedule, within budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Experience with resource management to be able to successfully and consistently achieve prescribed utilization performance goals.
  • Business experience in management of sales, backlog, profit/loss for a defined business unit or cost center.
  • Familiar with Cash Management strategies to maintain favorable month-over-month cash management performance / position.
  • Experience in development of a business unit / cost center budget and business plan.
  • Experience in employee recruitment and retention actions supportive of continued growth of professional staff.
General Experience & Requirements:
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • A minimum of 12-15 years’ progressive relevant experience in engineering including exposure to business management and financial/accounting principles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant technical field. (MBA Preferred)
  • Expert in MS Excel.
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications.
  • Deltek Vantagepoint experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication/inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task/shift priorities.
  • Strong professional communication and organization skills.
  • Occasional travel to Branch Offices required.
