Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking Management Trainees to gain hands-on training in service center operations, from logistics and freight management to team leadership, with mentorship and CDL opportunities.

The program emphasizes safety, quality, efficiency and service while trainees learn to manage shifts and departments across multiple centers. OD supports career growth within a family-oriented culture and promotes from within.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Proficient with WORD and EXCEL; AS400 background helpful.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to relocate after trainee program.

Responsibilities

• Complete shift manager's training as an understudy with an experienced manager or supervisor.
• Trainees will complete forklift job training and production exercises on all jobs within the service center.
• Trainees will participate in ODTDT program to obtain CDL license.
• Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments.
• Completes department/area knowledge indicators and develops new indicators and process changes.
• Works in AS400 moving freight and maintains records.
• Writes and submits monthly activity reports.
• Assigns work to employees according to daily schedule.
• Makes quick decisions based on volume levels and communicates schedule to staff.
• Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and correct deficiencies.
• Approximately 15% travel to other service centers to learn operations.
