Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is recruiting Management Trainees to gain hands-on training across service center operations, including logistics, freight management, and team leadership. The program emphasizes safety, quality, efficiency, and career growth within a fast-paced environment.

Trainees receive mentorship, opportunities to earn a CDL, forklift training, and leadership coursework, with potential progression to supervisory roles across shifts and departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Good working knowledge of computer/PC software (Word, Excel).
• AS400 background helpful.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Solid work history (if applicable).
• Professional appearance.
• Must be open to relocation when trainee program is completed.

Responsibilities

• Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager or supervisor.
• Trainees will complete forklift job training knowledge and production exercises on all jobs within the service center.
• Trainees will participate in the CDL training program to obtain a CDL license.
• Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments.
• Develops new indicators and implements process and procedure changes.
• Maintain records of efficiency, quality, costs, hot loads, missed loads, etc.
• Update payroll and employee information in Workday as needed.
• Write and submit monthly activity reports.
• Assigns work to employees according to daily schedule.
• Communicate schedule to affected employees based on volume levels.
• Inspect tools and equipment and direct corrective actions for safe operation.
• Travel approximately 15% to other service centers for learning and supervision.
