The primary purpose of the Operating Room Technician II position is to work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse. The OR Technician II assists with surgical procedures and related activities in the operating room. They deliver care in accordance with the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice, balancing cost-effectiveness with quality. The role requires knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools to facilitate invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
The OR Technician II demonstrates competency to scrub for minor and major surgical and endoscopic procedures. This is a non-certified technician position. The role involves participating in quality assessment and improvement activities, meeting continuing education and certification requirements, and engaging in student teaching and professional development. Performance is monitored by the Nurse Manager and/or Educational Specialist based on OR policies and procedures.
