Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking an Operating Room Technician to join the NSG-Operating Room team. The role supports the surgical team with instruments, sutures, and equipment, under RN supervision, ensuring aseptic techniques and patient safety.

The candidate collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, participates in performance improvement, and helps prepare, circulate, and assist during procedures and counts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years operating room experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certification exam must be taken and passed within 12 months of program completion.
• Current and valid BLS through AHA.
• Effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving, detail orientation, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to safety standards, infection control, and equipment handling policies.
• Takes corrective actions when discrepancies in counts are identified; provides equipment as needed.
• Performs other assigned duties as required.
• Monitors patient status and reports to the RN; communicates within the established hierarchy.
• Reviews perioperative plan and assists in adjusting care as directed by the RN.
• Provides instruments, sutures, and equipment while maintaining aseptic technique.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement and staff education.
