Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Patchogue, NY is seeking an Operating Room Technician for a full-time day shift (NSG-Operating Room). Under the supervision of the RN, you will provide instruments, sutures and equipment, deliver safe, age-appropriate care, and help maintain aseptic technique to support the surgical team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of operating room experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certification exam must be taken and passed within 12 months of completion of surgical technology program.
• Current and valid BLS through AHA.
• Effective communication, both written and oral, critical thinking, problem solving, detail orientation, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to safety, infection control, and equipment handling guidelines.
• Takes corrective actions when discrepancies in counts are identified. Provides equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
• Performs other assigned duties as required.
• Observes the patient's clinical status and reports findings to the RN. Addresses patient concerns in accordance with the established communication hierarchy.
• Reviews the plan of care during the perioperative period, monitors deviations, and adjusts the plan under the RN's direction.
• Supplies the surgical team with required instruments, sutures, and materials, maintaining aseptic technique.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, mentorship, and staff education.
• Communicates with patients and healthcare team members, escalating through the proper chain of command.
