Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is seeking an Operating Room Technician for Ambulatory Surgery. Under RN supervision, you will plan and deliver safe, patient-focused care, providing instruments and equipment with strict asepsis.

You will assist in circulating, gathering supplies, and supporting the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to safety standards, and ongoing participation in unit improvements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of operating room experience preferred.
• Graduate of accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certification exam must be taken and passed within 12 months of completion of surgical technology program.
• Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through AHA.
• Effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving, detail orientation, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to regulatory guidelines and institutional policies regarding safety standards, infection control, and equipment handling.
• Takes corrective actions when discrepancies in counts are identified.
• Performs other assigned duties as required.
• Observes the patient's clinical status and reports findings to the RN and communicates with the healthcare team.
• Reviews the plan of care during the perioperative period and assists RN as needed.
• Supplies the surgical team with instruments, sutures, and equipment while maintaining aseptic technique.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and staff education.
