Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General is seeking an experienced Experience Registered Nurse for the Operating Room to deliver direct patient care through the full patient journey. You will scrub and circulate across service lines, participate in patient education and support a 6‑month orientation with opportunities for specialty rotations.

The role requires RN licensure, ADN/BSN and BLS, with preferred 2 years OR experience and scrub familiarity; shifts are 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Successfully complete mandatory clinical competencies annually.
• Preferred: BSN; scrub experience; two years operating room experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population.
• Assessments: complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
• Planning: develop and update goals, involve patients and families in developing plans of care, coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.
• Implementation: provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication and document.
• Evaluation: participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process.
• Leadership/professional development: delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person/role model/mentor, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.
• Department specific duties: plan for patient care utilizing both patient specific information and preference sheets, assist in collecting and preparing equipment, instruments, sutures and implants, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, act as a patient advocate, identify patients and confirm that surgical site identification has been performed without discrepancy, timely respond to on-call pages, maintain the room schedule and ensure surgical specimens are handled correctly by accurate identification.
• Successfully completes mandatory clinical competencies annually.
