Job summary

UMC Health System in Texas is seeking an Environmental Service Assistant for the Operating Room to support patient transport and basic OR functions. This role runs Monday–Friday from 11:00am to 7:00pm and requires eligibility to work in the United States.

The position emphasizes cleaning, preparation of sterile supplies, transport of patients, handling of specimens, and collaboration with OR staff to maintain a safe, efficient operating environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and 1+ year of experience in environmental service or related role.
• Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Clean, prepare and set up sterile supplies, instruments and equipment for surgery.
• Transport patients between care units as needed.
• Handle transport and disposition of specimens and cultures.
• Obtain blood products from Transfusion Services and return unused products.
• Assist staff with room turnover and operating room readiness.
• Operate assigned cleaning machines and equipment.
• Perform cleaning between cases and manage waste, linens, and surfaces efficiently.
• Perform other duties related to attending the operating room.
