Job summary

UMC Health System in Texas is seeking an Environmental Service Assistant to support the operating room team. You will clean, prepare, and set up sterile supplies and equipment for surgical cases, and transport patients between units throughout the day.

The role requires attention to detail, English fluency, the ability to multitask, and a willingness to learn handling hazardous exposures associated with cleaning products.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• +1 year of experience in an environmental service capacity or related experience.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire into the role.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper cleaning, preparation and setup of sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment to be used during surgery.
• Transport patients between care units, when needed.
• Handle transporting and disposition of specimens and cultures.
• Obtain blood products from Transfusion Services and responsible for return of unused products.
• Assist staff with room turnover.
• Operate assigned cleaning machines and/or equipment.
• Perform duties required for cleaning between cases, including removal of trash and soiled linens, cleaning furniture, making beds, cleaning floors, and light/socket covers.
