Job summary

Hudbay is seeking a Mine Operations Superintendent to provide daily leadership for open-pit copper extraction, load, haul, and mine support activities. You will manage budgets, drive fleet productivity, and champion a zero-harm safety culture while coordinating with engineering, geology, maintenance, and processing teams.

The role requires a BS in Mining or Geological Engineering, 10–12 years in open-pit mining, and 3–5 years in a senior leadership position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mining or Geological Engineering or equivalent combination of education and leadership experience.
• 10–12 years of progressive open-pit hard-rock mining ops experience (copper/gold/base metals preferred).
• 3–5 years in a senior leadership or supervisory role (e.g., Shift Superintendent).

Responsibilities

• Direct all day-to-day open-pit mining activities including loading and haulage.
• Lead alignment of mining sequences with short- and medium-term plans.
• Drive continuous improvement to reduce bottlenecks and improve fleet efficiency.
• Enforce MSHA, state, and federal mining regs.
• Lead safety inspections, risk assessments, and RCA.
• Oversee environmental controls including dust suppression and groundwater monitoring.
• Coordinate with processing plant to optimize throughput and ore blending.
• Provide leadership and development for shift supervisors and operators.
